Because much of the technology children are using is new, there aren't yet studies about the impact of so much screen time on brain development"[...] ver artículo
No me hagan dar risa!!

Well, I would like to see the extensive research on the incidence of exposure of children to printed books and its relationship to brain development.

It is not enough working on Learning Objects. It is not enough to talk about Open Educational Resources (OER). This, without a real transformation of educational practices becomes an exhausting and frustrating effort. This is why open educational practices (OEP) have become an interesting working and researching topic. Despite the current definition of open educational practices is too narrow and requires a profound exercise of rethinking, we have launched this year a research project that aims to broaden the perspective on the OEP. The general idea is very simple, two questions arise: ¿what is the openness in education? and ¿what are the educational practices?. Finally the matching exercise of these answers will give us a broader and richer conceptual landscape about OEP. The picture shows this idea graphically.
Do you have ideas on this?
I started to put in a graphical manner my Personal Learning Network (Personal Learning Environment) as a strategy to make explicit the way in which I find interesting information flowing to and from their sources. Finally, it is a way to stay in touch with peers and colleagues. Of course, what appears in the image is only a small fraction of this network. I found this kind of activity a special space to activate or re-activate the tools to get this information easily and smoothly.

____________

A few days ago, with my class of pedagogical concepts and trends in the Masters Program in Educational Informatics at La Universidad de La Sabana, I had the opportunity to debate some thoughts about some pedagogical issues of ICT use in education. In between a conversation and another, came up a very interesting idea "pedagogy is like clothing."
This phrase, far from presenting a position that trivialized the practice of pedagogy, shows a very personal position regarding this issue, especially considering the challenges that are related with the educational use of ICT. This idea is developed through the following path: Depending on the context when we go, we must choose the most suitable clothes. However, there are people who are comfortable wearing black leather all the time, because that is their "style", they will recognize the awkwardness of his style at 40 celcius degrees on a tropical beach. As the way a football player doesnt play the Sunday match wearing a tuxedo or neither a great idea was presented to your boss wearing a nice set of pajamas (although I guess that exist a creative person to do so), a teacher should wear a proper pedagogical stance, consistent with demands of his context.
It is understandable that a teacher feels identified with some pedagogical principles and decides to apply them in his teaching practice, but ¿why does he must marry and defend them for the rest of his life or persist blindly in its appliance?
Many cases I have had the opportunity to witness of self-declared constructivist scholars who reject any different pedagogical approach (and I emphasize I'm not particularly against constructivism) and build a naive and illusory pedagogical panacea for integration of ICT in education.
In this regard I wonder ... if all students are not the same, technological mediations are very diverse, possible objects of teaching are not the same either, training purposes are also not the same as the contextual conditions too, ¿why the pedagogical approach must be the same forever? It makes no sense!

By the way, this statement looks very uncomfortable for the academic who fit his educational practices to a unique model just because is easier and not worry about exploring other possibilities or other "less safe" ways to do his work.
Also, another difficulty is presented, because if you are going to get rid of one and only teaching perspective in order to implement the most appropriate, you will need to acquire a certain expertise and handle a variety of educational alternatives… and this is not easy. But you can! With a little less pedagogical ego and a bit more of common sense and hard work ..it can be done. I´m sure about it.

------

Blog de Andrés Chiappe - Objetos de Aprendizaje - Learning Objects.
"learning objects"
"objetos de aprendizaje"
"elearning"
"e-learning"

------------

Today I find myself in the middle of a process regarding the issue of skills in information management. We have been asked to conduct an exercise that seemed like an opportunity to reflect on some interesting points regarding to educational informatics.
This exercise has to do with the definition of ICT, to determine their characteristics and impact on higher education and to ask for differences between information and knowledge. Finally we are asked to consider some proposals to use ICT.
Well, when it comes to addressing the issue of integration of ICT in education, whether from a perspective that considers the design of an ICT –based learning environment or the exercise of designing a learning object (such as two of many possible scenarios for integration of ICT in education), it becomes interesting discussion involving the differences between information and knowledge. This happens because we are working on the structuring, management and reporting information, and since then have in mind from the pedagogical principles on the construction of knowledge in students.
This, of course, is taking side with a long and interesting discussion which enter now only to consider some elements in an early stage.
To define ICT and therefore consider their characteristics and impact, would then be interesting to deepen the meaning of "information."
A good starting point would be the hierarchy known as DIKW (data, information, knowledge, wisdom), by authors such as Zeleny (1897), Ackoff (1989), Sharma (2004) and Clark (2004). Some of them complement a fifth element to this hierarchy by changing its name to DIKUW (adding "understanding"). In this way it gives shape to an outline of data, information, knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

Under this hierarchical scheme, the data are sets of symbols, in a rough shape, which have no meaning itself.
Information is a data set that has been processed to be useful and which has been given meaning.
The information stored within the cognitive structure of a person becomes in knowledge, that undergoes transformation processes in its meaning, through learning. Note that information is an entity that exists outside the person, but the knowledge only exists inside the cognitive structure of a person. This is an interesting reflection exercise about the concepts of "knowledge management" or "organizational knowledge." "is Knowledge transferable? or is it only rich information that is transferred?
The understanding refers to the cognitive skills put in place to make use of knowledge and apply it in context. It is a process. Some authors suggest that the difference between understanding and knowledge is the same difference between learning and memory (Belliger, Castro and Mills, 1997).
Finally, the wisdom goes beyond the understanding reached as the area of ethics. Based on a deep understanding, a human being reaches the level of wisdom when it is able to discern between right and wrong.

Now, returning to the main subject of this post, the ICT enables information management, but when we talk about education, ¿can ICT penetrate in areas of knowledge or understanding?
There is no doubt that ICT are characterized by permanently change and enable fast and efficient handling of large volumes of information. The main impact on education, have to do with the creation of spaces for collaboration and interaction and communication opportunities that were unthinkable a little more than two decades ago, as well as the possibility of creating educational content more easily upgradeable, with rich formats, flexible and easily accessible. However, the biggest impact of ICT in an educational process has to do with changes in educational practices of teachers and students. ICT does not guarantee changes in the way teachers teach or how students learn, however, their incorporation opens wide possibilities for educational innovation.
knowledge and understanding are a matter of the interior of a subject. ICT would enable the management information required for purposes of further transformation into knowledge, which in turn then participate in comprehension processes. In that vein, ¿ICT help learning? Yes, if, in so far involved in the efficient management of the vital input of knowledge and understanding: information.
It should be noted that this is a result favoring the accompaniment of ICT to the design of teaching strategies that take advantage of these technologies has its own merits, as these strategies (not ICT) that are the trigger of cognitive resources that allow that learning takes place.
¿How can we use them?
There are various possible scenarios for educational use of ICT. These scenarios go through improving the communication conditions of the learning process, by opening access to information, the potential for timely and ongoing interaction with people from diverse backgrounds, by the convergence of media and channels that allows transfering information in rich formats , etc.

Much will discuss and debate about all this.

-------
Ackoff, R.L.

---------------

This morning in the University of Dundee, I had the oportunity to continue a conversation with Professor Nick Hine about a particular subject that seems quite interesting to me: Disability and ICT in education, and more precisely the issues that have to do with digital educational content.
Was a long and nice talk that drops me a happy outcome as a conclusion: learning objects as open educational resources encourages production of inclusive educational material. It is a simple but strong idea behind this: being adaptable, editable, a learning object gives to an expert teacher in the disability issues, the oportunity to modify, adapt, change the format of information and also the information itself, just to to give the LO a greater lever of usability thinking of learners who have disability problems.
It is a quite complex problem and very sensitive too, and has to do with education state policies and with the most private and personal aspects of a human being.
There are some much to search for indeed but anyway it is still something promising in the air.
Learning Objects:1 - Printed Educational Content: 0

Blog de Andrés Chiappe - Objetos de Aprendizaje - Learning Objects.
"learning objects"
"objetos de aprendizaje"
"elearning"
"e-learning"

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16963070424085325027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32838939.post-12866237206102018742009-07-03T20:56:00.004-05:002009-07-03T21:01:03.927-05:00Objetos de Aprendizaje 2.0 - Learning Objects 2.0

Andres Chiappe has sent you a Voice4Mail.

Hit the play button or here to play your Voice4Mail message.

This message was sent using Voice4mail, a new iPhone application that allows
you to send voice messages to anyone's email address.

Download the application.
Go to the Voice4mail.com web site for more information.

Voice4mail - Speak your mail!

- Some of the reasons I think ADDIE is not an instructional design modelYa me han dicho en algunas oportunidades que me gusta ir en contra de la corriente.

---------

Some people have told me that I like to go against the river flow. Perhaps it is just like this, though, the truth is that to go against the river flow causes many headaches but also some other very personal satisfaction.
The work around the construction of virtual learning environments and learning objects has shown to me the need to adress a critical point of view about some concepts that are handled as normal or almost daily. One of this is the instructional design.
Quite contrary to what many people think in that regard, I believe that ADDIE is not an instructional design model; is rather an excellent model for project development. The arguments that support this assertion are just published in the Journal “Educación y Educadores”of December 2008. Interesante experiencia.

--------

The first conference at "Unplugged" from the RVT focused on the experience of the University of Lagos in Chile, through the Center for Teaching and Learning Resources (CREA).
